Matthew 14:30, NLT
- Focus on God’s word: When you focus on what God says, you can overcome any obstacle.
- Stay positive: Don’t let negative thoughts distract you from your goals.
- Trust in Jesus: He is always there to help you, even when you doubt yourself.
- Be persistent: Keep trying, even when things get tough.

Today, I want to share a story that continues to inspire me – the account of Jesus walking on water, found in Matthew 14:22-33.
Imagine the scene: a fierce storm rages, waves battering the boat, the disciples gripped by fear. Suddenly, Jesus appears, defying the raging waters by walking on their very surface! Now, enter Peter, the bold fisherman known for his impulsive actions. Based on Jesus’ simple yet powerful command, “Come,” Peter steps out of the boat and onto the churning water, defying logic and gravity itself!

Can you picture it? Peter, a simple man, taking steps on water, each one bringing him closer to Jesus. This passage is a powerful illustration of what happens when we truly focus on God’s word. As long as Peter kept his gaze fixed on Jesus, on the promise he received, he walked on water! But the story doesn’t end there.
The scripture tells us that the wind picked up, and doubt began to cloud Peter’s mind. He shifted his focus from Jesus to the storm around him, the sheer impossibility of the situation. What happened then? Fear took hold, and Peter began to sink.

This, my friends, is a metaphor for our own lives. When we keep our focus on God’s promises, on His word spoken through scripture, we can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Like Peter, we can experience moments of incredible faith, moments where we rise above our circumstances and walk on water – metaphorically speaking, of course.

But life throws storms our way, doesn’t it? Just like the wind and waves threatened to capsize the boat, doubt, fear, and negativity can threaten to pull us under. When we allow these distractions to take hold, we lose sight of God’s strength and His unwavering presence in our lives. The good news, however, is that even when we falter, even when we doubt, Jesus is there to reach out and pull us back up, just like He did for Peter (Matthew 14:31).
