John 13:7, NIV
- Don’t lose hope: Even when life seems unfair or confusing, remember that God is in control.
- Trust God’s plan: He has a bigger picture in mind, even if you can’t see it yet.
- Stay positive: Focus on the good things in your life and cultivate a positive mindset.
- Seek support: Talk to friends, family, or a spiritual advisor for encouragement and guidance.
- Find meaning: Look for ways to make a difference in the world and find purpose in your struggles.
Life can be a wild ride, can’t it? One minute you’re cruising along, feeling happy and secure, and the next – BAM! – a curveball gets thrown your way. Maybe a close friend walks away, leaving you feeling lonely and confused. Perhaps your company downsizes, and you face the sudden stress of unemployment. Or maybe a sudden illness throws your whole world into disarray, leaving you scared and uncertain.

These situations can feel overwhelming. You might find yourself asking “Why me?” and struggling to understand why God would allow such hardships. Today’s scripture passage offers a powerful reminder that even Jesus’ disciples faced similar confusion. On the night before His crucifixion, they knew difficult times were ahead. Jesus spoke of betrayal, suffering, and His ultimate sacrifice. The disciples, however, didn’t have the whole picture. They didn’t understand how this horrific event could possibly be part of God’s plan.
Just like the disciples, we won’t always have all the answers in life. Sometimes, God’s plan for us seems shrouded in mystery. We might feel lost, wondering what purpose our struggles serve. But here’s the good news: Jesus NEVER promised we’d have a crystal ball and understand everything. He DID promise, however, that He’s always working behind the scenes. As the Psalmist writes, “The Lord directs the steps of the righteous” (Psalm 37:23). God is actively guiding our journey, even when we can’t see the path ahead.

More importantly, Jesus assures us that “all things work together for good” for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). This doesn’t mean every hardship is easy or pleasant. It simply means that God can take even the most painful experiences and weave them into something beautiful in our lives. Perhaps a lost friendship teaches us valuable lessons about forgiveness and letting go. Maybe a job loss pushes us towards a new career path that’s more fulfilling. Or perhaps an illness forces us to slow down and appreciate the people and things we truly hold dear.
So, when life throws you a curveball, don’t lose faith. Cling to the truth that God is in control, even when it feels like everything’s falling apart. Trust that He’s connecting the dots, even if you can’t see the bigger picture yet.
