Start Your Day with Jesus: Embracing Peace Over Panic

Discover the peace and strength that come from starting your day with Jesus instead of the news. Explore practical insights and encouragement to prioritize faith over fear in your daily routine.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.

Psalm 92:1–2

Good morning, cherished companions and fellow truth-seekers. Let’s consider the rhythm of how many people start their mornings as we wake up to the embrace of a new day, a gift from our loving Creator. In an attempt to stay up to date with the happenings across the globe, people frequently reach for the newspaper or click on the news first. But what benefits does this regular practice usually bring? There were depressing accounts of pandemics and novel viral strains mixed in with stories of wars and turmoil, financial failures and natural disasters, and updates on crime and violence.

  • Prioritize Jesus: Shift your focus from negative news to the positive presence of Jesus each morning.
  • Biblical Example: Learn from Joseph’s success through his close relationship with God.
  • Holy Communion: Explore the transformative power of starting your day with a spiritual practice like Holy Communion.
  • Daily Practice: Practical tips on incorporating Jesus into your morning routine for lasting peace and strength.
Morning communion: Find strength in quiet moments with God.

To be clear, I am not here to discount the significance of remaining informed or to argue that being aware of the world’s difficulties is irrelevant. However, I’d want to provide an alternative perspective—a slight shove, if you will. What if, rather than jumping right into the stormy currents of the news, we started the day with a different focus? What if we made a conscious decision to begin each morning with Jesus?

Consider the immense impact of starting each day in the presence of the Divine. Imagine waking up and first turning our thoughts to Jesus, acknowledging His constant companionship, entrusting our plans to His capable hands, and trusting Him to shower us with His unearned favor, wisdom, and strength for the day ahead. This is not about burying our heads in the sand or disregarding the realities of life. Rather, it is about putting our trust in Someone larger than ourselves, Someone who holds the cosmos in His hands and anticipates our every need before we even speak.

The scriptures tell the tale of Joseph, a man who experienced terrible tribulations but stayed strong because “the Lord was with Joseph.” His success was not dependent on his knowledge of the current issue or his ability to manage the complexities of the political environment. No, Joseph’s prosperity derived from his deep awareness of God’s presence and guidance in his life. Similarly, dear friends, our success is not primarily determined by our knowledge of the most recent global developments. It’s about how closely we walk beside Jesus every step of the way.

Divine nourishment: Receive His strength in the simplicity of communion.

At our church, we’ve seen the transformative effect of beginning the day with Jesus. Many of us prefer to begin each morning with Holy Communion—not as a formality, but as a hallowed time of communion with our Lord. As we eat the bread, we receive a real sense of Christ’s strength filling our physical bodies. Sharing the cup reminds us of the beautiful gift of righteousness that Jesus purchased for us with His sacrificial death on the cross. What a powerful way to begin our day, focusing on Jesus, His life-giving presence, and His redeeming grace.

Imagine the impact of beginning each day by embracing Jesus as the source of our strength and the anchor of our souls. We accept Him into our morning routines—whether via prayer, meditation on His word, or quiet reflection—and we expose ourselves to a peace that surpasses understanding and joy that overflows regardless of circumstances.

Morning blooms: Reflect on God’s creation as you start your day.

This practice is more than just a spiritual exercise; it is a transformational way of life. Prioritizing our relationship with Jesus at the start of each day fosters a greater sense of calm, purpose, and resilience. We grow more aware of His voice, more responsive to His guiding, and better equipped to face the problems and opportunities that come our way.

Let me now address people who might be hesitant or doubtful about incorporating their faith into their daily lives. “How can focusing on Jesus in the morning impact the rest of my day?” one may ask. The nature of our relationship with Him holds the key to the solution. We allow Jesus’ transforming influence into every area of our life when we make Him our top priority, when we consciously seek His presence and match our hearts with His purposes.

The scripture says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Think about that. This is not a recipe for financial success or a promise of a life free of problems. It’s an encouragement, instead, to set our priorities in line with God’s everlasting kingdom: to find our true identity and purpose in Him, to seek His will above our own, and to trust His supply above our fears.

Consider Joseph as an example, and many other people who have walked closely with God throughout history. Let us be motivated to make Jesus the first thing on our list every morning. Let us spend some time in His word, in prayer, and in thought, reflecting on His kindness and grace. Let’s practice being thankful, praising Him for His gifts and seeking His guidance in whatever we do.

Finally, I would like each of you to think about how you start your mornings. Do you consciously choose to begin your day with Jesus, or are you letting the news of the day mold your viewpoint? You have the power to make a decision that could change not just your mornings but your entire life, my dear friends.

Morning light: Let His grace illuminate your path each day.

As you go through this day and every day that comes, may you find courage in His presence, discernment in His word, and serenity in His promises. May the knowledge that you are totally known, incredibly loved, and kindly forgiven by the One who gave His life so that we could live abundantly fill your hearts with joy.

Let’s pray: “Thank You, Heavenly Father, for this new day that is a gift.” May You lead us, Your knowledge illuminate us, and Your love keep us. Please enable us to walk in fidelity and obedience to Your will, keeping Jesus at the center of every day. Yes, in the name of Jesus.

Let’s continue to seek His presence, share His love, and live out His truth in every area of our lives. Together, let’s make each morning a sacred opportunity to connect with Jesus and allow His transformative grace to shape our hearts and minds.

May God bless you abundantly as you seek Him earnestly each day. Thank you for joining me in this moment of reflection and renewal. Visit our daily devotionals today and let’s continue this journey of faith together.
