The Bold Prayer of Jabez
Discover the transformative power of prayer through the inspiring story of Jabez. Learn how to overcome limiting beliefs and boldly ask God for His blessings.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Matthew 7:7–11
- God desires to bless you.
- It’s okay to ask God for personal blessings.
- Approach God with confidence and expectation.
- Don’t let fear or doubt hinder your prayers.
- God answers prayers.

Today, let’s delve into a powerful story from the Bible – the story of Jabez. Life wasn’t easy for Jabez. His name itself, meaning “sorrow,” hinted at the pain he might have experienced even before his first breath (1 Chronicles 4:9). But Jabez refused to be defined by his circumstances. He did something extraordinary – he turned to God in prayer.
Now, some might say Jabez’s prayer was a little self-centered. He asked God for personal blessings – to be enriched, to have his territory expanded, to be accompanied by God’s presence, and to be shielded from harm (1 Chronicles 4:10). But that’s where the true beauty of this story lies.
God welcomes our prayers for personal growth and well-being!

The Bible, in that very same verse, tells us God “granted him what he requested” (1 Chronicles 4:10). No complicated process, no long list of prerequisites. Just a simple, sincere prayer answered by a loving God.
Why? Because He’s our Father, and He wants us to flourish!
Think about it. Just like any good parent, God desires to bless His children. He wants to hear from you, your hopes, your dreams, and even your anxieties. Remember Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Perhaps the reason we don’t see more breakthroughs in our lives is because we’ve been conditioned to believe asking for big things is somehow wrong. We’ve been told prayers should be solely focused on others, neglecting our own desires. But that’s simply not true. God wants us to come to Him with confidence, with a heart brimming with expectation.

Here’s the invitation for you today: Don’t let fear or doubt hold you back. Approach God with what’s truly on your mind. He wants to shower you with good things, just like a loving Father desires to give his children the best (Luke 12:32).
So go ahead, pray boldly! Ask with unwavering faith, knowing that God delights in your requests. Let’s break free from these limiting beliefs about Him and experience the incredible joy of answered prayer!
Remember, my friends, God is good, overflowing with love for you. He’s waiting with open arms to hear from you.
May your prayers be filled with confidence and expectation!
