Philippians 1:29
  • Faith is a powerful tool: It can help you overcome obstacles and find strength in difficult times.
  • Jesus Christ is our mediator: He bridges the gap between us and God, providing hope and salvation.
  • Perseverance is key: Don’t give up when faced with challenges. Keep your faith strong and trust in God’s plan.

Many of you might be wondering, “Isn’t life as a Christian supposed to be a smooth ride?” The Bible definitely talks about God’s protection and blessings, but it also mentions the possibility of facing challenges for following Jesus. Let’s explore this concept together and see how the Bible helps us navigate these situations.

In our darkest moments, God’s grace descends upon us.

The Call to Follow Christ:

The Bible is clear that following Jesus often comes with challenges. The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, says in 2 Timothy 3:12, “Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (NLT). Even Jesus Himself warned us in Matthew 10:22 that those who identify with Him will be ridiculed for their faith. This “persecution” can take many forms, from social ostracization to verbal abuse, and even physical threats depending on the context. It’s important to remember that these challenges are a result of taking a stand for Christ in a world that doesn’t always embrace His teachings.

What Persecution Isn’t:

It’s important to distinguish between persecution and the hardships of life. Tragic accidents, illnesses, or even death aren’t necessarily punishments from God. Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes we face heartbreaking situations that have nothing to do with our faith. Remember the story of Job in the Old Testament? He was a righteous man who suffered terribly, losing his wealth, his children, and his health.

A reminder of the importance of using our gifts and talents for God’s glory.

Job’s Missing Piece and the Good News!

We won’t delve deep into Job’s story today, but one key point stands out. Job longed for a mediator, someone to bridge the gap between him and God (Job 9:33). He expressed a deep desire for reconciliation and a restored relationship with God. Here’s the amazing news! The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 2:5-6 that Jesus Christ is the mediator we’ve been waiting for. He died on the cross, paying the price for our sins and making us right with God. This sacrifice is our “ransom” – a term that literally means “to make atonement.” Because of Jesus, we have a direct line to God, and we don’t have to face challenges alone.

The Impact of Christ’s Sacrifice and a Hopeful Future:

Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, the enemy (Satan) has no legal claim over you or your family. When you accept what Jesus accomplished on the cross, you don’t have to live in fear of suffering like Job. While challenges may still come, you can face them with the knowledge that you’re not alone. You have Jesus as your advocate, your intercessor, and your source of strength.

A symbol of faith and trust in the unknown.

Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World:

Following Jesus doesn’t guarantee a life free of problems, but it does give us a source of hope and strength in the midst of them. In Him, you can look forward to a future filled with God’s promises, blessings, and protection (Psalm 23:6). Remember, even when things seem difficult, God is always with you. He will never abandon you, and He will use every experience, even the challenging ones, to draw you closer to Him and refine your faith.
