Today, let’s shatter a common misconception about angels.
Forget the cutesy, chubby cherubs some folks imagine flitting around with harmless bows and arrows. The Bible paints a far more impressive picture!
The passage we read describes angels as powerhouses. We’re talking beings far stronger than any human army. Remember the terrifying story of King Sennacherib threatening Jerusalem with his mighty Assyrian force? God sent just one angel to the Assyrian camp, and that lone angel wiped out a staggering 185,000 soldiers in a single night! (2 Kings 19:35) Now that’s what you call mighty!
But here’s the beauty of it all: these incredibly powerful beings are also completely obedient to God. They only act according to His will. And guess what? God’s Word tells us He’s assigned these amazing angels to watch over us!
Think about the incredible comfort found in Psalm 91:11-12. It beautifully says angels will “accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways.” Isn’t that a powerful image? We’re not alone in this journey of life! We’re covered under God’s protective wings, with angels working tirelessly on our behalf.
Now, the Bible also mentions some angels who rebelled with Lucifer. But here’s the good news that often gets overshadowed: two-thirds of the angels remained loyal to God! Hebrews 12:22 even calls them an “innumerable company.” There are more angels on our side than we can even imagine!
Even though we can’t see them with our physical eyes, they’re there, constantly ministering for us. So next time you feel a wave of fear or anxiety, remember this truth: according to 2 Kings 6:16, “those who are with us are more than those who are with them!”
Think about it: when Jesus was about to be arrested, He could have called on an army of over 80,000 angels! (Matthew 26:53) Just imagine the scene – a legion of powerful warriors ready to defend Him. But He chose not to. He chose the path to the cross for our sake.
Because of His incredible sacrifice, we can claim the amazing promise of angelic protection. Romans 8:17 tells us we’re joint heirs with Christ. That means we, too, have access to God’s amazing protection, including the watchful presence of His angels!
Trust in God’s angels, they will guide you.
So, friends, be encouraged! God doesn’t want you to face life’s challenges alone. He’s provided a powerful army of angels to watch over you. Let this truth be a source of strength and comfort as you navigate your daily life.
