Breaking Free from Guilt: The Power of Jesus’ Righteousness
Discover the purpose of God’s law and how it leads us to recognize our need for Jesus. Learn how to break free from guilt and embrace your righteousness in Christ.
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20
Comprehending the intent behind God’s commandments is essential to our spiritual path. God gave us the law to show us the truth of sin and our desperate need for a Savior, not to burden us with regulations.
- God’s law reveals our sin and need for a Savior.
- Without the law, we wouldn’t recognize our shortcomings.
- The enemy uses the law to make us feel condemned.
- Through Jesus, we are no longer under the law’s condemnation.
- We are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
- This righteousness empowers us to overcome life’s challenges.

Envision traveling on a road with no posted speed restrictions. Since there would be no laws to break, there would be no speeding tickets. Likewise, there wouldn’t be any consciousness of sin if it weren’t for God’s law. However, the law helps us realize how flawed we are and how much we depend on Jesus. It’s about demonstrating to us our need for His grace, not about making us flawless.

Nonetheless, the adversary attempts to turn the law against us. He desires for us to always feel guilty and undeserving of God’s favor and affection. Lies like “You’re not good enough” and “God won’t listen to you” are whispered by him. These charges are designed to keep us mired in regret and helplessness.

Pastor Prince of New Creation Church always tells us on his YouTube channel that the good news is that we are no longer subject to the law’s condemnation because of Jesus Christ! Jesus carried the weight of our sins on the cross in our place. Now we may openly proclaim our righteousness in Christ in the face of the enemy’s accusations. Aloud, let’s say it:
“I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ!
I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ!
I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ!”

This righteousness is a gift from God that we get via trust in Jesus, not something we have to work for. When God looks upon us, He sees us clad in His Son’s righteousness. This is where we will always be in His eyes: completely accepted, loved, and free from judgment.
So, my dear friends, remember that you are strong because of Christ’s righteousness no matter what obstacles you encounter, whether addiction, illness, fear, or sadness. With the knowledge that nothing can stop God’s love for you, hold fast to this fact and enjoy life to the utmost.
