The account of Joseph in the Book of Genesis serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and providence. Joseph endured many tribulations, including as being wrongfully convicted, imprisoned, and sold into slavery by his own brothers. God still had plans for Joseph in spite of these hardships. He ascended to a position of authority in Egypt, where he prevented a catastrophic famine from affecting his family and many others1. This shows us that God is always at work, directing events toward a higher purpose, even in the depths of our despair.

Just as God’s plan included Joseph’s tribulations, so too can our own struggles serve as a springboard for something bigger. Even though it can be challenging to understand why we are experiencing pain, we must have faith that God is directing us. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight,” is what Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us to do. Believing in God is accepting that He is in charge and is guiding us toward His holy goal.

Like with Joseph, each of us has a special purpose that God intends for us. He assigns us to certain jobs and places us in places where we can have an impact. We are called to be His representatives in our homes, communities, and businesses. Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are God’s workmanship, made in Christ Jesus to do good deeds, which God planned for us to do beforehand.” Accept the chances God gives you to lead and serve with greatness and humility.

As Christians, we are supposed to be good influences in the world, not to shut ourselves off from it. In John 17:15–18, Jesus prayed for His followers, asking that the evil one keep them safe rather than taking them out of this world. Just as I am not of this world, neither are they. You have spoken the truth, therefore sanctify them by it. I have sent them into the world, just as you sent me. It is our duty to spread God’s love and truth to others around us by being salt and light.

God’s design encompasses every aspect of civilization. He is developing people to become influencers and leaders in a variety of fields. God is setting His people up to have an impact in the economic world, government, healthcare, media, and education. “Work at everything with all your heart, as though you are working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward,” says Colossians 3:23–24. You are serving the Lord Christ. Serving God’s purpose with quality and integrity means that you are carrying out His will.

God frequently has greater plans for us than we can comprehend. He places us where we can most effectively serve His kingdom because He knows our hearts and our capacities. The Lord says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This gives us peace of mind. God will raise us to positions of influence and significance as we walk in obedience and fidelity. Don’t forget to live humbly, honor Him in whatever you do, and pursue greatness.

Finally, Joseph’s story serves as a potent reminder of God’s steadfastness and authority. Regardless of the obstacles we encounter, we can have faith that God is working, arranging us according to His plan. As His representatives, let us accept our roles, serve with honesty and excellence, and have faith that He will guide us to positions of power and significance.

Blessings to you all. 🙏 See you in the next daily devotion!
