Let’s talk about letting go, a concept we can all relate to at some point. Today’s message comes from the story of Abraham, our father in faith. Now, some of you might know that God called Abraham on a big adventure – leave your homeland, your family, and head to a new land I’ll show you. Pretty exciting, right? Well, Abraham listened, packed his bags, but here’s the thing: he also brought his nephew Lot along. The Bible doesn’t tell us why exactly, maybe family ties were strong, maybe Lot needed a hand. Either way, it wasn’t part of God’s original plan.

  • Holding onto people or situations God wants us to leave behind can bring unnecessary trouble.
  • Letting go with faith removes a “veil” and opens our eyes to new possibilities.
  • God’s plans are always good, even when they seem difficult at first.
A veil slowly lifting to reveal a vibrant landscape full of opportunities.

Sure enough, down the road, things got complicated. Both Abraham and Lot had herds of animals, and their shepherds just couldn’t seem to share the land peacefully. There were arguments, competition, not exactly the harmonious journey God intended. In the end, they had to separate, and guess what? Lot ended up with the richer land.

Now, things get even more interesting. Lot and his family get caught in a nasty situation, taken captive. Remember, this wouldn’t have happened if they weren’t in that location in the first place. So, what does Abraham do? This faithful man risks everything – his safety, his resources – to rescue his nephew. Talk about loyalty!

But here’s the lesson, friends. Sometimes, holding onto things or people that God tells us to let go of can bring unnecessary trouble. Maybe it’s a friend who keeps leading you down the wrong path, or a situation that drains your energy. The name Lot actually means “veil” or “covering.” When we cling to what we shouldn’t, it’s like a veil over our eyes. We miss out on the good stuff God has waiting for us: new friendships, exciting opportunities, hidden talents we never knew we had.

So, let’s ask ourselves today: is there something – a person, a habit, a situation – that God might be nudging us to release? Trust me, when we let go with faith, the veil lifts. We see things with fresh eyes, and a whole new world of possibilities opens up. Remember, God’s plans are always good, even when they don’t feel easy at first. Let’s have the courage to trust Him and step into the blessings He has in store.
