“Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth.”

Psalm 46:10, NASB

I was just reflecting on a passage that really resonated with me, and I wanted to share it with you all. It speaks to something I think we all struggle with at some point in our lives: the feeling that we have to make things happen. We put so much pressure on ourselves, don’t we? We feel like we have to force our businesses to grow, will ourselves to get better when we’re sick, and somehow magically instill good behavior in our children. It’s this constant, nagging feeling that something needs fixing, something needs improving, and that we are the ones who have to do it all.

It’s exhausting, isn’t it? This relentless striving, this feeling that we’re constantly pushing against closed doors, trying to pry them open with our own strength. We work harder, we try to be smarter, we strategize, we plan, we worry… and yet, so often, we feel like we’re just running in place. There’s no real rest, no deep-seated peace inside. We’re so busy trying to control everything that we forget something absolutely fundamental: we forget who’s really in control.

The truth is, we weren’t created to live like that. God didn’t design us to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. He didn’t intend for us to live in a constant state of striving and stress. In fact, that kind of life actually prevents us from experiencing the very things we’re longing for: His peace, His presence, and His abundant blessings.

Think about it: when we’re so caught up in our own efforts, when we’re so focused on fixing and forcing and manipulating, how can we truly recognize God’s hand at work? How can we see His favor and goodness when we’re so busy trying to create our own? It’s like trying to hear a whisper in the middle of a storm. The noise of our own striving drowns out the still, small voice of God.

This passage I was reflecting on really hit home because it speaks to the freedom that comes when we finally realize that it’s not all up to us. It’s incredibly liberating to understand that if we keep God first in our lives – truly put Him at the center of everything – He will provide what we need. Not necessarily what we want, but what we genuinely need. And often, what we need is far greater than what we could ever imagine for ourselves.

All that striving, all that frantic effort, it doesn’t actually get us where we want to be. More often than not, it just leaves us worn out, overwhelmed, and frankly, a little bit bitter. It leads to sleepless nights, churning stomachs, and a constant sense of anxiety. We become so consumed with trying to control every little detail that we lose sight of the bigger picture.

We try to make people do what we think is right. We try to force our coworkers to like us. We try to manipulate our finances into some semblance of order. But the truth is, we can’t control any of those things. We can’t make someone change their mind, we can’t force someone to feel a certain way about us, and we certainly can’t magically conjure up more money. Trying to do these things is not only futile, but it’s also incredibly draining.

So, what can we do? What is our job in all of this? Our job, as it so beautifully puts it, is to be our best each day. To honor God in everything we do, in every interaction, in every thought. To live with integrity, to love others as Christ loved us, and to trust that He is working all things together for our good.

When we focus on these things – on living a life that is pleasing to God – we free ourselves from the burden of trying to control everything else. We release the pressure, we let go of the need to force outcomes, and we open ourselves up to the possibility of God’s grace. And it’s in that space of surrender, in that quiet trust, that we begin to see His hand moving in our lives.

He will bring our dreams to pass, but perhaps not in the way we expect, and certainly not on our timeline. He may close some doors and open others. He may lead us down paths we never considered. But if we trust in Him, if we keep our eyes fixed on Him, we can be confident that He is leading us to a place of greater joy, greater peace, and greater fulfillment than we could ever achieve on our own.

This doesn’t mean we become passive or apathetic. It doesn’t mean we stop working hard or stop caring about the things that matter to us. What it does mean is that we shift our focus. Instead of striving in our own strength, we begin to rely on God’s strength. Instead of trying to control the outcomes, we focus on the process – on living each day with purpose and integrity, on loving and serving others, and on trusting that God is working behind the scenes.

It’s a shift in perspective, a change in mindset. It’s about recognizing that we are not in control, but that we are loved, cherished, and guided by a God who is infinitely more powerful and wise than we are. And in that realization, there is a peace that surpasses all understanding.

I truly believe this message is so important, especially in the world we live in today, where we’re constantly bombarded with messages that tell us we have to do more, be more, achieve more. We’re told that we have to hustle and grind and never stop pushing. But the truth is, true success, true fulfillment, comes not from our own striving, but from our surrender to God.

So, my friends, let’s take a deep breath. Let’s release the pressure. Let’s stop trying to force doors open and instead trust that God will open the right doors at the right time. Let’s focus on being our best each day, on honoring God in all we do, and on trusting that He is working all things together for our good.
